## Why dedicated action item extraction matters

A whiteboard often contains a mixture of context, decisions, brainstormed ideas, and actual tasks. The tasks are what drive work, but they're buried in the noise. A generic transcription surfaces everything; a purpose-built action item extractor filters for what's actionable.

## The tri-state action list

BoardSnap produces three states:

Open — task not started. Default for any item without a completion marker on the board.

In-progress — task underway. Inferred from markers like arrows, "WIP", a person's name attached to the item, or context in the board suggesting the work has started.

Done — task completed. Inferred from checkmarks, strikethroughs, or "done"/"shipped" annotations.

The state classification comes from the board itself — no manual tagging step. Anything that's ambiguous defaults to Open; you can change states inline in the app.

## Auto-generated subtasks

For each action item, BoardSnap AI suggests subtasks based on the board context and the nature of the task. These are starting points:

• "Launch email campaign" → write copy, review list, schedule send, verify tracking
• "Refactor database queries" → identify slow queries, write benchmarks, implement, review with team

Accept, edit, or delete subtasks inline. They're suggestions, not commitments.

## What happens after the action list

The action list lives in the BoardSnap project and is shareable via the iOS share sheet. For execution, the path is: copy the items → paste into your PM tool (Jira, Linear, Notion, Asana). BoardSnap is the capture-and-structure layer; the PM tool is where the work lives long-term.
