How BoardSnap handles your data — no spin.

BoardSnap processes whiteboard images using Apple VisionKit on-device and cloud AI APIs (Claude and OpenAI). Your boards are stored in a Supabase database tied to your account. Your data is not used to train AI models. Here's the full picture.

What happens on your device

The scanning step — perspective detection, image correction, and OCR — runs entirely on your iPhone using Apple VisionKit.

VisionKit uses the iPhone's Neural Engine, which processes data locally without a network request. Your raw camera feed is never transmitted anywhere. The live view, the angle correction detection, and the initial character recognition all happen before any data leaves the device.

This is significant for two reasons. First, it's faster — on-device processing doesn't wait for a network round trip. Second, the raw camera footage — the most sensitive capture of a live session — stays local.

What goes to the cloud and why

After VisionKit processes the image on-device, two things are sent to the cloud:

The corrected board image — to AI processing for structure interpretation and summarization. This is the perspective-corrected, flat representation of the board, not the raw camera feed.

The recognized text with position data — to BoardSnap's servers and then to the AI model, to generate the summary and action items.

The AI processing uses Claude (Anthropic) and OpenAI APIs. These are enterprise-grade APIs with commercial data handling agreements. Your data is not used to train their foundational models under these agreements.

The processed results — summaries, action items, board metadata — are stored in a Supabase database associated with your account.

      Storage: where your boards live

Board images and AI-generated summaries are stored in Supabase — a Postgres-backed database platform with row-level security. Each user's data is isolated at the database level.

Access to your boards requires authentication with your account. No board data is accessible without your credentials. Supabase data is encrypted at rest and in transit.

Boards are stored as long as your account is active. You can delete individual boards or entire Projects from within the app. Deletion is permanent.

        No training on your data

BoardSnap does not use your board images, summaries, or action items to train AI models.

The AI processing APIs (Claude/OpenAI) are used under commercial agreements that prohibit training on API inputs. BoardSnap does not use your data to fine-tune or adapt any model.

This is worth stating plainly because many AI apps are ambiguous about it. We're not: your whiteboard content is not training data.

          What BoardSnap doesn't do

          BoardSnap doesn't:

          • Sell your data to third parties
          • Share your boards with other users or accounts
          • Use your boards to improve the AI for other users
          • Access your camera outside of an active BoardSnap session
          • Store your raw camera feed — only the processed, corrected image

          BoardSnap does:

          • Send corrected board images to cloud AI APIs for analysis
          • Store summaries and board metadata in a Supabase database
          • Use your website URL (if provided) to inform brand-aware summaries — this URL is fetched by the AI, not stored or shared

            Frequently asked

Does BoardSnap access my camera when the app isn't open?

No. Camera access requires an active BoardSnap session. iOS enforces this at the OS level — apps cannot access the camera in the background. You'll see the green indicator dot on your iPhone whenever any app is using the camera.

Are my boards visible to BoardSnap employees?

Board data is accessible via the database to authorized engineers for debugging and support purposes. It is not reviewed routinely or used for any purpose other than operating the service. A formal data access policy applies to all privileged access.

What AI models process my boards?

BoardSnap AI uses Claude (by Anthropic) and OpenAI APIs for summarization and structure interpretation. The specific model may vary as we update to newer versions. Both providers operate under commercial API agreements that prohibit training on API inputs.

            Is BoardSnap GDPR compliant?

BoardSnap's data handling is designed to be compatible with GDPR requirements: data minimization (we only collect what's needed), purpose limitation (data used only for the service), user rights (delete your data at any time), and third-party processor agreements. For specific compliance documentation, contact [email protected].

Can I delete all my data?

Yes. You can delete individual boards, entire Projects, or your full account from within the app. Account deletion removes all board images, summaries, and associated data from the Supabase database. Deletion is permanent and cannot be undone.

Is BoardSnap suitable for boards containing confidential business information?

BoardSnap uses enterprise-grade cloud infrastructure, but board images are processed by third-party AI APIs (Claude, OpenAI). If your organization has policies prohibiting the transmission of confidential content to third-party AI services, review those policies before using BoardSnap for sensitive boards. For most business use cases — standups, planning, workshops — the data handling is appropriate.
