The whiteboard scanner your iPhone already wants to be.

BoardSnap is a whiteboard scanner for iPhone that goes further than a scan. Apple's VisionKit auto-corrects perspective as you aim the camera, and BoardSnap AI reads the result — diagrams, lists, arrows — delivering a summary and action plan in seconds.

The problem with every other whiteboard scan

Most whiteboard scans end up as a slightly-crooked JPEG sitting in your Camera Roll. You know you'll deal with it later. Later usually means never.

Even the good scanning apps — the ones that do flatten the perspective — stop at the image. They hand you a flat picture of the board and call it done. The next step is still yours.

Boards aren't documents. They're thinking in progress. A scan that captures the pixels captures nothing useful if you can't extract the intent.

    How BoardSnap scans a whiteboard

Open BoardSnap and point your iPhone at the board. VisionKit draws a detection overlay the moment it sees a rectangular surface — it finds the whiteboard faster than you'd frame it manually. Hold steady for a half-second and tap.

The perspective corrects automatically. Keystoning vanishes. The result is a straight-on, clean image of the board — as if the camera were directly in front of it, even if you were standing at an angle.

That corrected image goes to BoardSnap AI, which reads every element and produces a structured output: summary, action items, subtasks.

On-device processing: no cloud camera feed

VisionKit runs entirely on your iPhone. The camera feed — the live view as you aim — never leaves the device. Perspective detection, edge correction, and image preparation happen locally before anything is sent to the cloud.

Only the corrected image passes to BoardSnap AI for text and structure recognition. That's the minimum data needed to produce a useful summary.

      • Live quadrilateral overlay — see the correction before you shoot
      • Automatic perspective normalization — no manual corner-dragging
      • Works under fluorescent office lights, daylight, and dim conference rooms

Beyond scanning: what happens after the snap

The scan is the first ten seconds. BoardSnap is built for what comes after.

Every scanned board lives in a Project — a container that groups boards by client, team, or topic. The Project remembers context: your brand voice, pinned notes, prior boards. When you snap board number twelve in a sprint, BoardSnap AI already knows the project history.

Action items carry tri-state status: open, in-progress, done. Subtasks generate automatically. You can chat with any board, ask questions about its content, and drill into decisions the team made three weeks ago.

Microsoft Lens, your camera app, and why BoardSnap is different

Microsoft Lens also scans whiteboards and corrects perspective. It does that well. But it saves the result to OneDrive or OneNote as an image or PDF. The extraction step — turning visual content into structured tasks — is still manual.

Your native camera app has a similar story: great capture, zero extraction.

Boards capture thinking. Thinking should become action. That's the gap BoardSnap fills.

          Frequently asked

Does BoardSnap work in low-light conference rooms?

Yes. VisionKit uses contrast and edge detection, not color, to find the whiteboard. It handles typical office lighting well. Very dim rooms may require the iPhone flash — BoardSnap doesn't restrict it.

Can BoardSnap scan a physical whiteboard that has photos pinned to it?

Yes. BoardSnap AI reads the text and diagrams on the board. Photos or printed materials pinned to the board are included in the image but the AI focuses on written/drawn content.

Is there a maximum board size I can scan?

No fixed size limit — the constraint is resolution. For large wall-mounted whiteboards, step back enough to fit the whole board in frame. VisionKit will detect and correct it. If the text is very small from that distance, stand closer and take two overlapping snaps, then use the project chat to synthesize.

How is this different from just pasting a photo into ChatGPT?

ChatGPT can read a photo, but it doesn't correct perspective, doesn't persist board history in a project, doesn't generate tri-state task lists with subtasks, and doesn't remember your brand voice across sessions. BoardSnap is built for this specific job.

Does the free tier include scanning?

Yes. The free tier includes full scanning and AI summaries for up to 30 boards in 1 project. Pro unlocks unlimited boards and projects.
