Two-pager

Definition

A two-pager is a two-page document that expands on a product, proposal, or idea beyond what a one-pager can hold — typically adding proof, context, or a more detailed plan while still being short enough to be read in a single sitting.

The two-pager sits between the one-pager (the quickest possible explanation) and the formal proposal or PRD (the complete specification). It's appropriate when the reader needs slightly more than a headline pitch but not a full document.

Common two-pager formats:

Product proposal two-pager — problem, solution, target customer, success metrics, risks, and a rough scope estimate. Used internally when pitching a new feature or initiative.

Sales two-pager — one page of problem and solution, one page of proof (case studies, data, competitive differentiation). Used when the one-pager didn't close the conversation.

Amazon's two-pager is a specific format used internally at Amazon for proposals: a narrative prose document (not slides) that forces clear thinking by requiring full sentences. The two-pager must stand alone — readers annotate and return it without a meeting.

The extra page in a two-pager is typically used for: supporting evidence (data, examples), implementation detail (rough timeline, dependencies), or objection handling (anticipated concerns and responses).

Like the one-pager, the discipline of writing a two-pager is valuable even if the document is never distributed. Forcing a proposal into two pages requires the author to prioritize ruthlessly and make the logic explicit. Proposals that can't survive that constraint often aren't ready to be discussed.

Two-pager outlines often start on whiteboards — structure first, content second. BoardSnap captures those outlining sessions.

Examples

  • An internal product proposal two-pager: page 1 is the problem and solution, page 2 is metrics, risks, and rough scope
  • A sales leave-behind two-pager: page 1 is the pitch, page 2 is three customer use cases with outcomes
  • An Amazon-style narrative two-pager for a new feature initiative, reviewed asynchronously by leadership
