BoardSnap and iCloud: what syncs and what doesn't.
Short answer
BoardSnap stores your projects and boards on your iPhone. iCloud backup covers the app's data as part of your standard iPhone backup, so you won't lose your boards if you restore your device. Cross-device iCloud sync between multiple iPhones or iPads is not a current feature of BoardSnap.
## What iCloud does for BoardSnap
iCloud device backup: Your BoardSnap data is included in your iPhone's iCloud backup automatically if you have iCloud backup enabled. Restore your phone from backup and your boards come back.
iCloud Drive sync: BoardSnap is not a document-based app and doesn't store files in iCloud Drive that you'd access from other devices or the Files app.
iCloud cross-device sync: BoardSnap does not currently sync your projects and boards across multiple devices via iCloud. If you have two iPhones (or an iPhone and iPad), your BoardSnap data on one device doesn't automatically appear on the other.
## The offline-first architecture
BoardSnap has an offline capture queue built in — you can snap a board in a dead zone and it queues on-device until you have connectivity. This is separate from iCloud sync and works regardless of your iCloud settings.
## What happens if you get a new iPhone
If you restore your new iPhone from an iCloud backup of your old phone, BoardSnap and its data should transfer. This is standard iOS app restore behavior. If you set up your new iPhone as new (not from a backup), your BoardSnap data stays on the old device.
## What's ahead
iCloud sync across devices is a natural next capability — especially as BoardSnap evolves toward team and web features. No announced timeline for multi-device iCloud sync.
Frequently asked
Does BoardSnap save my whiteboard photos to iCloud Photos?
If you capture directly in BoardSnap's camera, the photo doesn't go to your camera roll or iCloud Photos automatically. If you save the image separately, it follows your standard iCloud Photos settings.
What happens to my boards if I delete and reinstall BoardSnap?
Deleting the app removes its local data. If you have iCloud backup enabled, restoring from backup brings the data back. Without a backup, the data is lost — there's no server-side account to restore from.
