Due dates in BoardSnap — adding deadlines to action items.
Short answer
Yes. You can add a due date to any action item in BoardSnap by opening the item and selecting a date. BoardSnap AI may also extract and suggest due dates when they are explicitly mentioned on the whiteboard (e.g., "by Friday" or "EOQ"). You can edit or override these suggestions at any time.
## How to add a due date
- Open a board in BoardSnap
- Tap the action item you want to set a deadline on
- In the detail view, find the Due Date field
- Tap to open the date picker
- Select the date
- The date saves automatically
## When BoardSnap AI detects dates
If the whiteboard has explicit deadlines written on it — "Launch by April 30," "EOQ," "Next sprint," "Friday" — BoardSnap AI may read those and suggest them as due dates on the relevant action items. Review and confirm any AI-suggested dates before treating them as official.
"Relative" dates like "by EOD Friday" or "this sprint" are interpreted in context. If BoardSnap can't determine the absolute date from context, the due date field will be left blank for you to fill in.
## Why due dates matter in an action item list
A to-do list without dates is a wish list. Adding a due date — even a rough one — transforms an action item from intention to commitment. In a meeting context, the due date is often the only thing separating "we should do this" from "we will do this by when."
## Dates and the tri-state system
Due dates work alongside the three-state system. An item marked in-progress with a due date of tomorrow is a different priority than an item marked open with a due date of next month. BoardSnap surfaces both pieces of information in the item view.
## What doesn't exist yet
There's no calendar integration (Apple Calendar, Google Calendar) that automatically adds BoardSnap due dates as events or reminders. You'd need to set those manually or use Shortcuts to bridge.
Frequently asked
Does BoardSnap send reminders when a due date approaches?
Not currently. There's no notification system for due dates inside BoardSnap. Track deadlines externally (Reminders, Calendar) for now.
Can subtasks have their own due dates?
Yes. Each subtask can have an independent due date separate from the parent item.
