## How to assign an action item

1. Open the board in BoardSnap
2. Tap the action item you want to assign
3. In the item detail view, tap the Assignee field
4. Type the person's name
5. Save — the name is saved with the item

## When BoardSnap detects assignees automatically

Whiteboards often have assignments written explicitly: "Jake — own the API brief," "Sarah → user testing," or action items listed under a person's name in a column. BoardSnap AI reads these patterns and can pre-populate the assignee field from what's on the board.

Always review AI-detected assignees — names on a whiteboard are sometimes headers, not owners. A five-second review after each snap confirms accuracy.

## What "assigned" means in BoardSnap (current limitations)

An assignee in BoardSnap is currently a text label — a name or role. There is no:

• User account linking (no way to tag a BoardSnap account)
• Notification sent to the assigned person
• @mention that routes to another user's inbox
• Integration with Slack or email that pings the assignee

If you want to notify the person, share the action item list to Slack or email after the meeting and call out their assignments there.

## Naming conventions that work well

Be consistent with names across your project. If you write "Jake" sometimes and "Jacob" other times, they'll appear as different assignees. Standardizing names in pinned context helps the AI use consistent naming in future snaps.
