## The three states
Every action item exists in one of three states:
- Open — not yet started
- In-progress — actively being worked on
- Done — complete
This is what makes BoardSnap's action items different from a standard to-do list. The in-progress state is not just a halfway checkbox — it represents real, meaningful work status. You can mark an item in-progress in the meeting and have an accurate status picture by the time you leave the room.
## Subtasks
For complex action items, BoardSnap AI auto-generates subtasks. If the board shows "Launch Q3 campaign" with supporting notes about channels and deadlines, the AI will often generate subtasks like "Define target audiences," "Brief design team," and "Set up tracking." Subtasks can also be edited or deleted.
## Editing action items
Every item is editable inline. Tap an item to edit the text, add a note, change the state, or delete it. The AI's first pass is good but not sacred — fix anything that's wrong.
## Exporting and sharing
The full action item list can be exported via the share sheet in multiple formats. You can also copy individual items or the whole list as plain text and paste them into any other tool.
