Use case

Every idea from the ideation workshop — captured before the room clears.

BoardSnap is an iOS app that reads ideation workshop whiteboards and turns sticky note clusters, idea trees, and voting results into a structured opportunity document with prioritized next steps.

The problem

Ideation workshops are designed to generate volume — lots of ideas, fast. The whiteboard fills up quickly. Sticky notes overlap. Clusters form organically as people group similar ideas. It's productive and chaotic simultaneously.

Then someone photographs the board, says they'll type it up, and forgets the half-finished cluster that was the most interesting idea in the room. Or they type up the voted-on ideas but not the rejected ones — losing the divergent thinking that future sessions might need to revisit.

BoardSnap captures the full board: every idea, every cluster, every vote count, every annotation in the margin.

The workflow

  1. Frame the problem before generating

Write the problem statement at the top of the board. 'How might we [do X] for [audience] so that [outcome]?' This anchor is what BoardSnap uses to contextualize the ideas it reads.

  2. Generate without filtering

Ideas go on sticky notes, fast. No judgment. The goal is quantity — aim for fifty ideas before clustering. Duplicates are fine.

  3. Cluster related ideas

Move similar notes together. Name the cluster with a theme or phrase. Named clusters are what BoardSnap uses to organize the output by category, not by individual sticky note.

  4. Dot-vote to prioritize

Each person gets three to five votes. Place dots on the ideas or clusters they find most promising. Don't campaign — vote independently.

  5. Mark high-potential outliers

Any idea that didn't get votes but someone feels strongly about gets a star. Stars tell BoardSnap to include these even if vote counts are low — they're the wild cards worth preserving.

  6. Snap the final board

After voting, snap the full board. BoardSnap reads every cluster, the ideas within it, vote counts on clusters and individual notes, and starred outliers.

What you get

An ideation document organized by cluster theme: each cluster named, the ideas within it summarized, the total vote weight for the cluster, and the top-voted individual ideas called out. Starred outliers appear in a separate section. The output is structured enough to paste into a product brief or research plan.

Real examples

Product feature ideation

Sixty-three sticky notes across eight clusters. BoardSnap organized them into a one-page opportunity document: cluster names, key ideas, vote tallies, and three starred outliers the team wanted to keep visible despite low votes.

Marketing campaign ideation

A creative team's brainstorm for a product launch campaign. BoardSnap's output organized twenty-seven ideas into five creative directions, with the two highest-voted directions generating immediate action items for concept development.

Frequently asked

Should I capture ideas that weren't voted on?

Yes — always. The ideas that don't win today are often the right ones for a different problem next quarter. BoardSnap captures everything on the board, voted or not, so the full divergent thinking is preserved.

What's the best sticky note color system for BoardSnap?

Colors don't matter to BoardSnap — it reads the text, not the color. If you use colors for categories, label the legend on the board so BoardSnap reads the system ('yellow = user-facing, blue = internal'). Otherwise, use cluster names and placement to organize.

Can I use BoardSnap for a solo ideation session?

Yes. Solo ideation on a whiteboard — idea trees, mind maps, rapid word associations — is excellent BoardSnap input. Snap at the end and you have a documented idea record instead of a photo you'll never revisit.

How does brand-aware AI help in ideation sessions?

When you've set up brand context in your project, BoardSnap AI frames the ideas in terms of your product's positioning and audience. A cluster labeled 'user communication ideas' gets summarized in your product's voice, not generic output. Useful when the document goes directly to stakeholders.
